Some localised flooding has already taken place in certain areas of Carlisle including Denton Holme and the Racecourse. Other areas within Carlisle are being closely monitored and further updates will be given should the situation change.
Police and partner agencies are becoming increasingly concerned with people arriving in Carlisle city centre to view the river levels. Advice is to stay away from flood waters wherever possible.
We advise residents to keep up to date with local warnings and alerts, if people want to self-evacuate early, please inform your family and friends where you are going, and that you are safe, to avoid concerned relatives contacting emergency services.
Further updates will be issued to keep people up to date of the situation in Carlisle.
Flood water is dangerous. Everyone is advised to stay away from swollen rivers and if you are travelling, check the flood risk before setting off and don’t drive through floodwater."
