The Carlisle United FC Scandinavian Branch was formed in 2004, following a group of friends having some beers in a pub. One member of the group recalled how he had visited Brunton Park around 1970 to watch Carlisle United, and the memories he held of Chris Balderstone. A few weeks later, the group traveled to Brunton Park for the final day of the 2003/04 season against Cheltenham Town, and despite relegation to the Conference, they returned on the opening day of the following season. The group make the trip several times a season, making new friends every visit.
