Bulgaria v England was created by nobbyblue
Come on the Bulgars. England will do well to match the mighty Scots big win last night.

Classic line from Roy Keane when he was asked what he thought Ross Barclays best position was. On the bench Keane replied.

That Clive Tylsdley wants a good hiding.

Carlisle would have been kicked out the league decades ago if the rule was around then.

Bulgaria are terrible - what happens if the game get called off - 4.0 win - we can thrash this lot 8.0.

Now we will see how serious Uefa are about Racism. Scenes tonight warrant nothing less than a total ban on all Bulgaria games under Uefa jurisdiction for at least 4 years. Remove their clubs from all European club competitions whilst they are at is also.

Likely social, but Uefa has no jurisdiction over Bulgarian society and so can only base punishments on football.

Difficult though to fine/ban countries from football based on the social problems within their society.
Tricky subject.

Really good performance,Winks is the best we have in that position,Mings also had a decent game.
Switched the TV off ,I thought it was a football program not a racism chat show..Like all think it's disgusting but again we give these idiots the platform they want.
This is a social issue not a football one,if you stop the game it's exactly what they want.

The Mings interview was kind of ironic - talks about the racism then Southgate comes - do you still want me here? - No we have covered the monkey chants - on you go!

Basically, from what I could see the perpetrators weren’t interested. In the football, they were there to cause trouble.
What’s going on with Bulgaria as a team, why were they so useless?
As has been said on other threads, racism will never go away, but what you want is that the overwhelming majority of decent people drown out the idiots and don’t give them the Oxygen.
Unfortunately Bulgaria are so poor that very few people seemed interested in supporting them and they were shockingly bad tonight.
I’m not sure about the banning the country thing, as when People were calling for England to be banned because of a minority of troublemakers , I thought that didn’t seem fair on the rest of us and there has to be a better way.

Says it all really:

“The president of the Bulgarian Football Union Borislav Mihaylov sent an official letter to the UEFA General Secretary Mr. Theodore Theodoridis and the chairman of the English FA Mr. Greg Clarke expressing his indignation and disappointment following the public comments by Mr. Gareth Southgate and the suggestions that the English players will be subject to racial abuse by the Bulgarian supporters in the upcoming European qualifier in Sofia on October 14th,” a statement read.
“The BFU views such behaviour as groundless, inappropriate and unnecessary prior to the important and exciting football game that Bulgarian fans have been looking to in the past year. We have not received any official information regarding discriminatory language used by a Bulgarian supporter at Wembley Stadium.
“Even if this were the case, however, we believe that generalisations and the creation of needless tension by official members of the English team is absolutely unacceptable and in contradiction with the spirit of mutual respect and fair play, the core values of both UEFA and the BFU.”

Along with ourselves there are other countries such as France, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Holland where you wouldn't now expect to hear open racism at an international football match, even though it may not have been eliminated socially.

So it is possible - I can clearly remember open racist chanting and monkey noises at black players at BP in the early 80s. Some of those responsible no doubt still attend now and wouldn't dream of behaving that way now.

Then there are other countries, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia etc where it is still predictable and commonplace.

The first step is to make it clear that it is unacceptable though meaningful punishments such as ground closure, points deductions and disqualification from tournaments.

That in turn will be a first step in educating those societies that open racism is unacceptable.

You can't change what people may think in private but you can change how they behave in public.

.............and the keeper.

The Bulgaria goalkeeper Plamen Iliev has said the home fans “behaved well” during the Euro 2020 qualifier against England at the Vasil Levski Stadium on Monday night, suggesting that Gareth Southgate’s players “overreacted a bit”.

Maybe that WAS good ....in comparison to what they're normally like

The Bulgarian captain was talking to fans through the boundary wire (says it all that they still have that) as the teams went in at half time obviously asking them to behave

The fact some officials are in denial is the worst thing. It was happening during the warm up

Can't see this stopping racism, Bulgaria can be optimistic.........

"Serbia have been ordered to play their Euro 2020 home qualifier against Luxembourg behind closed doors because of the "racist behaviour" of their supporters.

Uefa imposed the punishment following Serbia's 4-2 defeat to Portugal in Belgrade on 7 September.

Serbia, who will host Luxembourg on 14 November, were ordered to play two matches behind closed doors.

However, the second game is suspended for one year.

In addition, Serbia's Football Association has been fined £28,550 for other charges relating to the Portugal game including fans on the pitch and the setting off of fireworks inside the ground.

Serbia are third in Group B with 10 points from six games, one point behind second-placed Portugal."
