CUSG Meeting - Mon 13 Aug 18 was created by BoardAdmin
OK, as voted for by users, the Messageboard will be represented at tonight’s CUSG Meeting at the Club. Mouldy and CCU are your Reps tonight.

Obviously, we’ve a rough idea of how it works (We’ve had an outline Agenda sent over to us), but given the short notice it’ll be a mixture of seeing how they do stuff, introducing ourselves and who we represent and asking some questions.

We’re going into the meeting with an open mind, only right we do so, and we’ll be letting you know what happens, how we see the meetings and anything else worth commenting on.

If you’ve anything you’d like discussed, let us know, and we’ll ask.

Apologies we haven’t had lots of time before this Meeting, but it’s all happened quickly, in future we understand the agenda is emailed out a week or so prior, giving time to collect any questions and opinions.

Thanks,

Admin.

Questions from Users:

NorthernSoul - “To what extent percentage wise are EWM contributing to David Holdsworth.s salary costs?”

DancingBear - “Why do we need a chief executive and a director of football at a time when the playing budget has been slashed and who’s paying their wages?”

Seesaw - “I want to know how the written plan for the future direction of the club is going as was asked for at the Fans Forum.”

LBTufty - “Does the current Board have a genuine intention of leaving the ownership and running of the club to another party? What would it take for them to leave?”

Bumble - "Have you got a date for the new strips to be available for fans (home and away), and have you got procedures in place to make sure we don't have a similar debacle next season?”

Melbourneblue - FAO JM “Can you ask Jim Mitchell why he still wears skinny jeans when he’s in his sixties.”

Bejustandfearprokas - FAO CUOSC “Q. What are your membership numbers, are you able to tell us rough demographics of your members, and do you consider that info as a healthy representation of Carlisle United Supporters?”

HighSt - “Do you realise how many people have stopped attending games and why?”

YorkieBlue - “Is there a plan for Brunton Park :-
Is it to be redeveloped / upgraded.
Maintained in roughly it`s present state.
Or is the club actively seeking an alternative achievable location for a new ground.”

182Blue - “Carlisle United have a number of loyal, die hard supporters who are of course vital to the club’s existence, but little obvious effort seems to have been made by the club to attract new supporters, particularly families and younger supporters. Supporters groups may attract a certain demographic of people that do not wholly represent the fan base, or potential fan base. Do you agree and if so what do you think the club can do to change this?”

I could spend a day asking questions but I will limit myself to one(ish)

"Have you got a date for the new strips to be available for fans (home and away), and have you got procedures in place to make sure we don't have a similar debacle next season."

No problem if you don't get it asked, fully understand you've got to bed in and see how things work for this one.

Do you realise how many people have stopped attending games and why?

I expect that not to be answered by waffing about how good attendances are by comparison with other clubs.

My question would be:

Carlisle United have a number of loyal, die hard supporters who are of course vital to the club’s existence, but little obvious effort seems to have been made by the club to attract new supporters, particularly families and younger supporters. Supporters groups may attract a certain demographic of people that do not wholly represent the fan base, or potential fan base. That would be great if you could get one without parents also having to buy one. It just isnt feasible for us to buy 3 with my shifts.

And if we were getting gates of 8k they wouldn't be doing that at least if they were they would be in a specific section of the ground full of screaming bloody kids that no real fan would want to sit.

It's not kids of that age they need to be bothering about its the 12 13 and 14-year-olds who simply aren't interested anymore because theres no crack or excitement and you can knock that all you want but the minute theres a game where it might kick off the said kids all pile out of the woodwork don't they ? whether the goody two shoes on here like that or not its a fact.

We were there 3hrs last night, interesting meeting.

Notes are expected to be released on Friday, there’s a process behind which we’ll explain when they come out.

Regarding questions, some are covered in the general discussions during the meeting, others are asked directly. From the list we had, everything was covered in some form.

Club were represented by Nigel Clibbens and Andy/Amy from Media.

Maybe the minutes of the meeting are edited for the club's sake.
Is it worthwhile attending or is it pointless?

Teasing aside, I think it has to be done this way. When the meeting is made up of different organisations, some one at the meeting has to produce one set of official minutes that are sent out to all parties. Then each group are discussing the same hymn sheet, although each group may have different takes on those minutes and maybe more questions will come from that.

If each group went away and typed up there own versions, it would be confusing and some groups would have theirs typed up before others, which woudn't be good. As long as the official minutes are done in a timely manner I'm happy for them to be done that way.

We obviously signed NDA’s so couldn’t possibly release the recording Barry

For elimination of doubt - this is a joke.

I felt with a few tweaks it could actually be a useful group. BUT it needs to nail down and progress items mentioned and be more than a chit chat about some ideas that don’t come to fruition.

Each to their own.

If the concern towards the time between meeting ending and minutes being published is that they could be edited in any favour of any party, that won’t happen as we will question any misrepresented information.

If the concern is just for folk to have something to grunt about, then grunt away. If it takes a few days to have them accurate and concise then I’d rather that than an inaccurate document that was rushed out.

No, they can take as long as they want to produce them as I certainly don't read them

What I object to is they treat it like a secret society people should be tweeting and texting from the meeting then people could send messages live its called being open and honest and involving the fan base not running a group thats more akin to a Kremlin committee.

But I can't believe that you didn't go in there and use the opportunity to put shits like Clibbins and Comical Andy in their place

I see your point Barry. In an ideal world yes a live tweeting scenario may be beneficial in some eyes, but the meeting was 3 hours already and I see that as far too long and is probably not as productive as if it was say 90 minutes but carried out efficiently. It isn’t a ‘fans forum’ so to speak so the 6 weeks in between each meeting, I think, gives people enough time to get topics, queries or feedback to us to then take forward with us. The club, that said, did recognise fans forums needed to be more frequent and there was some discussion about more.

In fairness we did directly challenge the club on their stance regarding news updates, mascot changes and executive vs playing budgets. I explicitly asked if the shirt delays are as a result of club staff not performing. There will be quite detailed notes of our input (plus the responses) in the minutes when posted - perhaps if you break trend this time and read them you may see we did approach things in a firm but fair manner. We also directly asked CUOSC a couple of realistic questions regards their appeal to fans and whether they accepted the fact that the majority do not see them as representative. All questions and challenges were met with fair and productive debate.

If we went with the sole intention of ‘putting people in their place’ it would lead to a very short existence for us and would not leave much opportunity to actually try to improve things to the benefit of supporters.

I.m not interested in the slightest what the likes of Clibbins, Comical Andy and definitely not the tw.ats who purport to be a trust have to say so no i.ll give that a miss thanks.

Along with Jenkins Nixon and Pattison, they are a cancer that needs cutting out simple as and i.ve no idea in what ways you think you're going to improve anything. What exactly have they improved since they came into existance ? Only thing I can see they've done is to make the ground look like an allotment with a load of lean-to sheds.

Anyway i.ll look forward to having a little chuckle when Comical Andy writes his little piece about the MB rolling over having their tummies tickled and joining the Jenkins Glee Club
