Now the GE is done and dusted, and with MP’s returning to Parliament today to begin being sworn in, we’ve locked the GE Thread last night, and you can now use this one for any Westminster related stuff.

Anything Brexit related will be moved to the ongoing Brexit Thread!

If you are quoting, please add a link to back it up. Post without and the quote may be removed.

Thanks.

Get ready for a Sturgeon barrage over Independence incoming!

Can't see it, unless she is demented.

Complaining that the UK Government will have the power to control all state aid post Dec across the UK, is somehow taking power away from Holyrood is daft given she would apply immediately to rejoin the EU if Scotland won independence, therefore handing that power back to the EU again.

But, she is demented, so owt could happen.

The pandemic has really opened up the devolution/independence debate. I also think it raises a big question over having the DVLA in Wales where arbitrary rules from the Welsh government can bring it to a grinding halt. I got a SORN refund today 3 months after my declaration. The only trouble is I taxed the car a week after making the SORN declaration so I've been driving untaxed for 3 months without knowing it. I've heard of other people waiting months for driving licences or retention certificates for registration numbers. It's just not acceptable.

An abundance of lies were spouted in order to influence the Brexit vote, the ones I particularly remember were.............

George Osborne declaring there would have to be an emergency budget if the result was leave because the economy would immediately crash.

Oback O'Rama telling us "Vote leave and get to the back of the queue if you want to trade with us in future" Our armed forces were never instructed to get to the back of the queue whenever they got involved in fighting their dirty wars in the Middle East.

There would have to be a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland, or "backstop" as it was referred to. All gone quiet about that as it was just another load of scaremongering claptrap.

Priti Patel talking the talk but not doing anything about it.

Just a matter of time before another Glasgow hotel scenario happens again. They are undocumented, theres no doubt there a re ISIS fighters among them.

96 just shipped up to Cumbria aswell past month. Who are they?? Where do they live?? What background have they came from?? What are they're beliefs??

I'm all for immigration the legal way but a majority of these illegals don't even qualify for asylum.

The 96 will be Syrians, Jeff, with 5-year Humanitarian Protection visas and taken from the camps under the agreements we’ve made. They are therefore refugees not asylum seekers. A small number may be unaccompanied asylum seeker children. Their claims will be considered while they are in care. Where they are and their beliefs are their own concerns, but the security services will have checked them out and they’ll have been fingerprint-checked in case they’ve come to notice before. Lat time I looked, Cumbria wasn’t a dispersal area for asylum seekers but children are treated differently.

Yeah because we can trust people who paid people smugglers to be honest from where they came from.

Once again it's only a fringe minority are in favour of letting ILLEGALS in the country.

Beliefs not our concern?? Are you forgetting g the Reading and Glasgow attacks already?? Only happened matter of months ago.

You claim asylum in the first country you come to. They've crossed many countries to get here because of our benefits we give them.therfore they are ILEGAL.

Do you not believe in law and order?

Homeless on streets, children in poverty but we spend a lot of time and money on economic migrants who should not be here In the first place.

The legal asylum seekers will be the most pissed off having going round the right way of doing it just to see rubber dinghys full of them pouring in.

Jeff, read what I said again. They didn’t pay people smugglers. They would have been taken form the camps by the UK as deserving of refugee status under agreements that we made several years ago.

Yes I believe in law and order.

Yes I also believe that genuine asylum seekers should claim asylum in the first safe country, and that most who claim asylum are economic migrants. I’m not generally in favour of us taking economic migrants because it can be detrimental to their countries of origin to lose its youngest and brightest - the ones who can afford top pay people smugglers.

I hope that’s cleared things up for you.

Are you bothered about the young dead man the other week who died trying to cross??

Maybe if he had tried coming LEGALLLY he would still be here today.

Have you forgotten about the reading and Glasgow attacks already? Both were "asylum seekers"
