Hi all,

We’ll be implementing some behind the scenes changes in the coming weeks.

Upgrading the software that runs the Forum etc, should mainly be stuff that won’t affect you lot, but could be some cosmetic changes too!

We’ll update as/when it happens, in case the site goes clunky or changes suddenly.

May as well get it done whilst football is on hold in these strange times.

Hope you’re all well!

Admin.

I get the same issue, I think it happens when you revisit a thread, that has had no updates since the last time you visited.

Can we have the subjects you've already read or posted on in a separate category back please? You know like the old board.

Is Discourse one of the bits, or one of the pieces, that you're looking at?

No.

The old version wasn’t working fully though, in terms of what we see/use, so had to go. The new back end is far easier for us to use.

As said, several times, still looking at a few bits and piece...

The old site was much easier and familiar, the new one is plain and boring, you have made the error of changing to soon.

Some colour, headers and recognition this is a CUFC Forum would be a good start.

To try and help to re-engage everyone, could I suggest when a ' Forum ' tab is selected, the site defaults to the >recent>all > page.

This has more information, it's up to date and looks more like a forum home page.

Could you look at using Discourse instead? Example of what it would look like here.

Ignore the pricing bit, you're allowed to host it on your own server for free if you want.

The quote button only goes below the Username on Mobile. On Desktop it’s to the right hand side of the box, level with the name. Seemingly it’s hard coded too so not the easiest thing to move - We did ask about this.

We’ve removed a lot of features to give a simpler, cleaner look to people’s post (You’d be amazed how many options are available!).

We’re still tweaking...

The boxing on posts is a lot better, although I'd move that little quote button somewhere else if possible. Next to the username would take a lot of the emptiness of the box out.

The home page for the main forum is still a bit grim.

Would look better if the posted by and last reply bits with avatars were removed? Does anyone care about either of those being there.

That would give you room to expand the time and date box which is very squashed up.

P.S.. I like using a desktop at home because of the bigger screen.

Why not put the date the right way round day/month/year ?

why year/month/day ?

Page number tabs at the top as well as the bottom ?

Page number tabs in the Forum headings so you can go to the last one straight away ?

We’ve also had folk liking the layout too.

You’ll all notice the Date/Time has now been added.

We’ve also removed some other bits which were clogging up the feed.

We’re also tidying up some more bits.

We’ve a query raised about the going to unread posts when you click on a Thread too, awaiting an update on this.

That's it, I have just spent about half an hour trying to navigate my way around this thinking it must be me and it can't be as user unfriendly as I initially thought earlier in the day.
I give up, and will give the techs the rest of the week to either sort it out or put it back to what it was (with an edit button).
Until then I will have to vent my spleen elsewhere.

I know it's been commented on previously, but is there an easier way to see the last post rather than have to scroll to, for example, page 10 or 20, depending on the topic, then to the bottom of the page?

Also seeing the original post at the top of each page makes you think you are still on page 1, even though your'e on page 20.

Could we maybe have the reply button after every post, as it is not always (i.e. rarely) the last post that I'm replying to.

What about having time and date of posts, rather than '11 minutes ago' / '2 Days ago'. It just makes the sequence of the posts more easy to follow.

What was the reason for the update/change in the first place? Was there a specific reason we couldn't stick with the old layout? Apologies if it seems a bit blunt but this just feels like change for the sake of change, something I'm not really a fan of. My philosophy is if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Back end (Which you lot don’t see) wasn’t the best. New one is much easier for us.

Also makes things like Polls and Pictures easier hopefully, they’d hit a bit of block under the old Kunena system.

The support for the new style, EasyDiscuss, is also miles better.

Not a fan, 6/10 for the fact that it works. Layout and clarity is not easy, maybe bolder lines round each post for a start.Lack of information (poster/time and date / last comment/name etc) on the home page.

I agree with silent one, it''s difficult to tell where one post ends and another begins that very faint grey shading that only shows up when I bend my head to look straight at my crappy monitor - the guardian uses the same shade for maps and it makes them unusable which makes it a big prob for me and silent

Can you stick all the post info: name - forum - post number - quote button all on one horizontal line rather than splitting it over two at either end of a post
? Would save a bit of scrolling

When I click on a topic I want the latest page to open not the first one....

I commented on Flatcap's post, but it's stayed up there with his post.

So, loads of posts like that won't even get seen.

Because you’ve commented directly in response to a post.

To generally comment, you scroll to the bottom to ‘Post Response’.

To quote reply, you click the quotation button.

That does seem a bit like complicating it unnecessarily, although I suppose it's straightforward enough to get used to.

I'm trying to find the recently read posts but it seems to have disappeared.

The only things wrong with old type was the lack of an edit button and too many folk couldn't post pictures. Add the features list time/date of posts etc and it will improve. it feels like we've been relegated to the conference at the moment.

Every singe time we do this, people complain and say "there was nothing wrong with the old layout, this one is shite".

Then a few years later when it's time to freshen it up or change, the sequence is repeated... ;)
