Aye Abbott could spot a player.

Paddy Madden and Nakhi Wells have went on to score 260+ goals between them since Greg got rid!

After he contributed to our eventual relegation into League 2 he also used his vast experience to help Bradford nosedive to the bottom tier and Notts County out of the league all together. :D Top Coach.

Tch nobby, we couldn't afford to blood inexperienced lads like Madden and Wells, imagine if we had - we'd probably have dropped into the bottom division and stayed there till this day....

League Two side Colchester United have signed former Liverpool goalkeeper Shamal George on a two-year contract.

Abbott wasted hundreds and hundreds of thousands on the likes of Offiong and Hurst but he’s like Jurgen Klopp compared to Pressley and Beech!

Postmen? :o

I'd rather have Curle than Abbott though.

Why would a 28 year old want to be third-choice keeper? Hardly career progression

A handsome wage whilst living back home probably appeals to him?

Amazing some saying McKirdy and Thomas were not good enough. I’d be astounded if we’ve replaced them with better.

We still sold Dempsey too cheaply!

There's a difference between having potential and realising your potential.

Injuries, poor coaching, being played out of position, not applying yourself or looking after yourself off the pitch - the reasons for not achieving what you might have as a footballer are as long as your arm.

It's fair to say Dempsey had huge potential for his age, and on this basis we sold him too cheaply. Whether he realises this potential or not is a different question and his current value is irrelevant.

Also, McKirdy's potential was clear to see last season (given it was his first proper season as a pro). Yes, there are obvious questions about his attitude and mentality, but a decent coach or manager should be able to knock some sense into him and remove the immaturity and petulance from his game. On his day he could be a matchwinner, so definitely worth a gamble at tier four level.

Cole Stockton just scored two for Morecambe on the red button. First one was a fantastic effort. He’s got a big bandage on his heed so he might well be concussed the way he’s playing.

Like Partick Thistle manager John Lambie back in the 80's, one of his strikers was taken off concussed and trainer said ''He doesn't know who he is boss'', to which Lambie

replied '' That's great, tell him he's Pele and get hin back on''.

Fryer could be a decision we come to regret.

Had the potential to be an outstanding keeper with a bit of patience.

I would laugh my head off if Mckirdy winds up at Port Vale, no disrespect to Vale but he quite clearly thought he was too good for Carlisle.

I believe Toure will have a bigger impact than mckirdy.

He scored 11 goals with us and went missing in a lot of games. He was too lightweight when playing against certain players.

Port vale have got a decent squad with many well known players mind. 4 previously at carlisle Cullen, Brisley, Amoo and even Luke joyce is still with them

Another example of Carlisle fans thinking a player is better than he actually is. A telling factor is always where they end up after leaving, McKirdy was being touted as a Championship player last season, he’s ended up at Port Vale on a one year deal after a trial.

Folk were moaning we sold Dempsey too cheaply a few years ago, a million quid was mentioned as that’s what Exeter sold Grimes for. Turns out Dempsey wasn’t actually as good as they thought, ended up at Gillingham via Fleetwood at the age of 24.

11 goals and 7 assists in one (not even a full) season on the wing isn't a bad return to be fair to the lad!

I doubt any of our wide players will manage that this season, potentially Toure.

Yet all the talk of £250,000 moves to the likes of Pompey and Cardiff were miles wide of the mark. He had to go through a trial just to get a one year deal at Port Vale - a sideways move!

Dempsey’s resultant achievements suggest otherwise. Failed in the championship and ended up as a mid-table league one player after a couple of free transfers. Potts has been a far bigger success.

In your opinion he had huge potential, I’d say he looked a decent prospect. I don’t remember a clamour of clubs vying with each other for his signature, he earned himself a less than glamorous move to Huddersfield. Failure in the Championship and settling down as an average player in the league above ours suggests the transfer fee which he commanded was probably about right.

As soon as anyone looks anything more than half decent in a Carlisle shirt there’s always an exaggerated excitement of how good they are and how much they’re going to be worth. Westwood didn’t turn out to be a premier league regular, Dempsey’s proved he was never worth as much as Grimes went for, McKirdy hasn’t turned out to be (or at least yet) a Championship player leaving for £250k.

If McKirdy is as good as some make out then answer the following...

Why did nobody any better come in for him considering he was on a free?
Why did he have to go on trial at a club to get a deal?
Why did it take until 2 days before the new season starts for him to get a club?
Why only Port Vale?

All pertinent questions imo.

Let's bear in mind here that Devitt has spent the vast majority of his career in League Two, didn't get a look in at Blackpool and has had very little interest from teams at our level, so is going to Newport. He didn't start performing for us until the last year or so here either. Maybe he isn't quite the player some think he is...

Devitt is a very good player for this league however Beech appears to me to be trying to build a team based physical strength and speed and energy there are some big lads in that team and the likes of Mellish cover a lot of ground

Was obvious end of last season he saw something in Mellish he likes and despite being very new to his new position doing very well with others who could probably play in there too

With Devitt and his recent injuries perhaps not the all action player he wanted or simply felt not best suited to the way he wants to try and play I'm sure Devitt will be a success again in the right team I also don't necessarily think it was wages
