I dont know how to upload videos off YouTube, or I'd put it on here.
One of the best goals I've seen at BP.Certainly in my top 10.
30 years ago today.

Also Saddington scores a beauty.
Their reply came from George Oghani.

No disrespect to Goldsmith but I wish Johnie Halpin had not got injured.
Kevin Rose would’ve been in goal. Again apologies for disrespect but it’s another ‘What if’.

Craig Goldsmith was one of my first favourite players (him and Paul Proudlock). Did we sign him on loan from Peterboro or somewhere? He was probably sh1te really, but I was only about 8 at the time.

Yeah, if memory serves me right, he initially came on loan from Peterborough as one of several attempts to replace John Halpin who had broken his leg for the 3rd time earlier in the season. (Tony Cullen on loan from Sunderland was another)
Goldsmith had a couple of impressive games for us and signed permanently.
He then proceeded to be sh1t the following season.
Admittedly it didn't help that he had a bunch of teammates led by Eric Gates who were equally sh1t during the 90/91 season.

Tony Cullen scored a brilliant goal as well.

Was it against Stockport on a Sunday?

Remember that was one of the first games I went to without my Dad and instead went with some mates on the train from Penrith, bit of underage drinking and then into the Warwick. Did reflect at the time that I'd have had a much better view of Goldsmith's goal from Dad's usual spot in the Paddock!

Only 4,300 there but the atmosphere at games back then had that edge which it doesn't seem to now, you can hear it in the sound on that clip.

Aye, you are right mate. It meant more to a lot more folk back then. Hardly any passion now. Every [censored] has had it drained from them. Won’t just be at Carlisle mind, most clubs be the same I’d imagine.

I met Goldsmith on the building site for a salad factory near Spalding. He was working as an electrician and he spotted the CUFC sticker in my van window. That was well over 20 years ago.

Remember Cullen’s goal well and I think it might have been on a Sunday for some reason. He cut infield in front of the paddock and cracked a right-footer into the top corner at the Waterworks End. Sure it put us top of the league for the first time in god knows how many years, certainly for the first time in my Carlisle watching lifetime.

I met Cullen on my travels too. He was staying in the same B & B as I was staying in at Swansea. He must have gone there after us. When the owner said I was a Carlisle fan, Cullen said "Tell these lads about the goal I scored for yous" - the other players said "Oh. He's always going on about it"!

Wasn't it on a Sunday because it was near Christmas and it was an attempt to avoid a big Christmas shopping drop in attendance if it had been on the Saturday?
