Because this storm originates in Spain, they get to use their naming system rather than give it a different name once it gets here. The video I saw from the Met Office pronounced it 'whore gay' - just saying...

What was the point of Brexit if Spanish storms are still being allowed in?

I thought storms were named after women. The reason is that when they come they are wet and wild and when they go they take the house and car !

Storms names are about the only non PC thing left . Never get storm Hamza or Abdul. Or perhaps a storm without a name to suit those who refuse to be put in a box.
What about a trans storm? We could have a storm who starts off as a fella and ends up a woman.
Come on the MET. Get with the times.

Why do they turn up at weekends?

This has got to be the 4th or 5th weekend in a row that we’ve had this shit.

Winds of 70mph and torrential rain is just typical Cumbrian weather, surely it would be much more useful if they could warn us when a storm is on the way?

Why do they have to have a name at all?

It's not like you're going hurts it's feelings without one.

It used to be just a spell of bad weather.

Dunno why wukkie but that reminded me of the old Billy Connolly joke about getting shot by a “conventional” weapon.

Michael Fish used to refer to these winds as a "Stiff Breeze"...let the innuendo flood gates open...ooohhhhpps that may be un-appropriate..
