Season 20/21.. was created by Lakelandterrier
We are seeing some good signs from Beech and this squad, we may have a positive goid finish to the season. With that in mind and a good pre season of building, and a strong indication of new majority owners, what are our thoughts and aspirations for next season?

I would be looking for good foundations, and stronger, bigger squad and be in the top 10 pre christmas looking to build and get stronger as the seasons goes, top 3, with a promotion. We deserve it as fans.

No chance the 3 stooges would want a promotion,if we were 10 points clear at the top they would sack Beech and re appoint Presley.

That Adam Phillips at Morecambe looks a good player scored 4 since jan from midfield. I think at least 1 permanent striker is needed and probably some wingers if mckirdy goes. Thomas seems to like it here so we might get him back. We may have new owners so here’s hoping. Up the football league we go!

What is Beech's record in the league since he took over?

I watched the last 20 mins of Portsmouth v Exeter last night and we look a long way off Exeter's standard.

I think it will be a harder league next season with Bolton coming down, Hopefully the southern teams such as Swindon, Exeter and Plymouth will get promoted this season

Could be a lot more Northern teams next Season, Tranmere and Bolton look like coming down, Barrow and one of Harrogate and Halifax are all possibles from coming up too.

As just said, nobody would complain at Swindon, Exeter and Plymouth going up, Cheltenham or Colchester in Play-Off too, then Stevenage down as well.

A lot less travel in that lot!

Nothing less than promotion is acceptable, so many on here now willing to accept less is a sad state of affairs.
No chance of promotion though unless we have new owners. If no change then another season of struggle and maybe the drop out off the league.

Does anyone know what beech's league record is since he started?

I'm sure it will be no better than lower mid table.

Yes we are harder to beat but we don't win many.

Nothing less than promotion next season - we have been in this league far too long. Will only be achieved with new owners. Jenkins has never had a promotion!

Beech is W3 D7 L4 - 1.14 points per game.

While we've only lost four games, only winning three in 14 doesn't seem too exciting so far either.

Pressley this season was 1.06 points per game.

So a win percentage of 21% in an awful league!

1.14 pts per game would have us on 37 points in 18th place 15 points below the playoffs.

Over the season we would end up on 52 points - 20 points of the playoffs.

Not a big improvement really.

Owners who get it that if you're going to have to put 500k in at the end of the season to cover the losses you might as well give the dosh to the manager in the summer give it a bloody good go and cover the deficit with increased turnover.

If we can add a decent striker and attack minded midfielder, we may get mid table next season. Would imagine Thomas will be off to lge1 club to test himself. I dont understand why Olomola is not getting a go has he done something wrong. If he sticks to the plan of playing up front and doesnt keep going out of position hed be a real asset i think.

I wouldn't work as a steward at any other club. Might be a bit funny but it would seem like "cheating on" this one. I might hate the direction the owners are taking it in, but it's my club, and I've followed them since I was a kid, there's no other club I'd want to work at.

Anything less than a top seven finish next season will be classed as failure.

Beech has a big job in the summer. Clearly we're a bit light at centre-forward (in numbers and experience) and we'll be losing Watt and Thomas in May.

So he'll need additional numbers and quality in the middle of the park and upfront - but his signings so far have been encouraging.

He has a "get out of jail free" card this season to help build for next term. When we're mathematically safe I'd like to see him blood the younger players we've just given contracts to.

All in all his performance as manager, although decidedly shakey at first, has been encouraging overall. And if his signings in pre-season match the quality of January's transfers we should be confident for next term.

Any finish outside the top seven in tier four should always be classes as failure for our club, however.

I reckon the players are showing signs of improvement under Beech, at least stopping the rot that Pressley caused although I would be still massively worried if it were two still going down as then we would still be properly right in it.

Well done with that score of seventeen on the predictocomp by the way Piglet - some going that!

Not too fussed with his record this season. The squad Pressley left him was pretty awful, and apart from Hayden/Anderton, I can't see any of this squad being starters next year.

Webster still doesn't look good enough to me, let's get Hunt starting and see what he can do.

Gethin hasn't signed on for next season. In midfield we have guy and mckirdy. Be interesting to see if Jones signs on for another year, personally think he is worth it.

Up front Patrick will be here, the rest potentially gone though kayode might be available on a season long loan

I think we are in a similar position to when Curly Keith came in. Turned the downward slide round to make us safe.
Team (on the limited times I have seen them) seem a long way off a promotion team to me. Just not enough flair and goals in the team at present.
Big summer ahead, so suppose depends on what the financial plan is - same as this year or soend the Branthwaite money.

1 defeat in 8 now, a couple more wins and we would be planning on keeping the majority of the squad together, but we'll need an experienced goalscorer and a younger backup, in support of Patrick. Thomas and McKirdy don't like the graft that's needed in D4, so we'll need someone to support Allessandra in the attacking midfield role (Devitt?).

A fit Callum Guy could replace Watt, then potentially young Max Hunt in for Webster and then two new keepers to add a bit of competition for the Jersey.

Simples, this management thing is so easy.

If we keep the majority of this squad together beech will be lucky to make Christmas next season.

Looking at the squad:

GK:
Colin - be a decent option but wants out.
Gray - awful let go.

Defence:
G Jones - cant see him staying will get more money top half L2 bottom half L1.

Hayden, Hunt and Anderton signed.

Ierdale: will go with Birch signing well not carry 3 LB’s.

NKP will be released.

Webster: shouldn’t be here / the mistakes he makes are still their, just untill today they hadn’t been capitalised on, what worries me is Beech May extend.

Melish: interesting one with being able to play CB, LB and CM age may be on his side and and may get an extension.

Birch, Lightfoot and Barness, should allow us to sign a very good L2 cb to compete with Hayden and Hunt. Then replace G JOnes (providing he rejects a deal). Then add a versatile defender in to the mix.

Midfield:
Scougall, Bridge, Sagaf, will all be gone.

Watt may chose to stay - few rumours he wants to be based back in Preston.

M Jones - if you e take out loyalty isn’t good enough for a top half chasing team, gets away with a lot due to “fond” memories of him, may be cheap backup.

Guy will be available, but I think we need some holesale changes in our CM options. Dixon and Chartrs will challenge hopefully 2 or 3 competent CM’s who have power and flair.

Forwards:
Mckirdy - cant imagine he’ll stay, if we extend via an option I think their will be a transfer request.

Fella & Loft won’t be here.

Kayode: looks very raw and decent, but personally I hope he isn’t here, rotherham don’t have a good track record with letting loan CF’s remain for a season: Yates (twice now).

Thomas: I think if we show ambition and stager his contract he will sign and be one of the top players in this leauge, providing we get a CF capable of scoring goals.

Allesandra: I really Hope isn’t here, what good is a Cf who doesn’t assist or score ?

Patrick: will still be here, but needs to develop his game massively, looked very raw bar his goal today.

Will have no doubt missed a few out, but we’re going to need arguably 7-8 players minimum.

Although Beech’s stats as manager aren’t startling I think some folk need to look at the bigger picture. He’s slowly pulled us away from the relegation zone, which was number one priority when he arrived. He’s made us a lot more resolute and hard to beat which is a good foundation for building a decent side. Also he’s probably earned himself the luxury of being able to experiment for the rest of the season in preparation for next season, which can ultimately distort results a bit.

By no means has he proved himself but there are definitely some good signs emerging and he’s been unlucky with injuries to 2 of his main January signings. He’s trying to form a good, settled backline but their emergence is being undermined by some awful goalkeeping behind them. A competent keeper and a decent centre forward in the summer and I’d be quite optimistic for next season.

I’d back this up with the fact, when Beech came in we were 5 points clear of Morecambe, we are now only 6. Things haven’t improved, Stevenage have collapsed.

I'm very puzzled as to why Stevenage have been so bad this season. I was at their last home game last season and everyone was upbeat. Before the match Tyson Fury, a local lad flew in by helicopter and spoke to the fans. Ronnie Henry the departing club captain was given a good send-off and Maamria seemed relaxed. I'd never have predicted it would all fall apart so quickly. It's a reminder that League 2 is treacherous and you cannot take anything for granted.
