Too little too late for UK. I've been trying to tell people for weeks not to wait for government advice. We had a policy of infecting the herd until this week which I quickly calculated would kill more than 800,000. They have now back tracked and only today have closed pubs, cafes, schools, cinema etc. Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow has declared a 'critical incident' after hitting capacity due to a surge in patients with coronavirus. National Gallery has confirmed 2 of the staff tested positive before they closed. Government and people are now panicking in London.

The Government have been drip feeding information. The peak wont be till mid June and then a decline till September and then a second wave in the winter. Social isolation will remain for a year.

As we are now at a point of no return it saddens me to say we should follow Northern Souls advice but in s staged way.

Camps for kids up to 18 - 7 weeks to get infected and recover - only a small percentage will need hospital treatment on camp (think MASH).

Then 18-25 year and so on.

According to this nobby all self-employed you'll be lucky if you can get up to £500 per month where as if you're employed by someone else you can get £2500K.

How can that be fair?

Northwick Park hospital has always struggled to recruit enough nursing staff. It has been hit by a early cluster of cases in the North West London/ south Hertfordshire area probably due to the proximity to Luton airport. In two weeks time sadly we will see other hospitals being swamped with urgent admissions.

She was in a village hospital in the East of Poland, not that far from the Ukraine border. Very sad but the standard of healthcare there would have been extremely basic.

Adds weight to the govs new strategy though NS. Getting millions infected and the herd immunity option is not an option on saving as many as possible anymore. The cases were rising too fast.

And if they'd carried on with the original plan instead of backtracking they wouldn't have to be spending all the money they are doing it would have been much more cost-effective to simply provide as many beds as were needed and if you forcibly isolated those over 70 and with the pre-existing conditions the need for critical care beds would be vastly reduced as that would lower the number in the age and vulnerable categories being exposed to the virus. It certainly looks as if the present game is simply one of buying time with measures to stop that spike but it's going to come at a very heavy cost to the economy for decades to come.

Much as doing it by age groups would be convenient I don't see how you could do that short of booking them all into Butlins and age at a time for a virus catching break.

It really does look as if they have got themselves stuck between two different plans now but their indecisiveness has ended up costing all that money when it didn't need to.

I believe there was a piece on the BBC news that explained it quite well they are fighting like mad now to stop that big spike [ hence today's actions ] and when they've done that they will release them a bit to create a small spike that they can handle and then keep repeating that till the only people who haven't had it en masse will be the old and vulnerable who are in enforced lockdown who will inevitably catch it in smaller numbers over the period hopefully in numbers that the intensive care beds can deal with.

But what concerns me is that they haven't started commandeering hotels yet because without doing that they simply aren't going to have enough beds but it does seem to be the plan as a number of military personnel are currently taking a crash course in management of such where they will deal with the logistics leaving a medical person to be in charge of the care of the patients and the plan is each one [or more ] will be attached to an individual hospital. Some will be used for people deemed to be ill enough to need hospital care but not intensive care and some will be used as large recovery wards for once people are thru the worst. But now that they've asked staff who've left in the last 3 years to come back add into that 2 nd and 3rd year nursing students and 3rd 4th and 5th year doctors in training it doesn't look as if staffing them will be the issue.

My wife who is a health care trainer was standing tall with fight 3 days ago. Today shes broken. She's getting out! I don't blame her, can't watch people who should be looked after bring touched through glass. NHS are leaving them behind right now. It's worse than the official figures. Local Facebook post (York) from a victim and victim's flatmate at 42 asthmatic NHS refused hospital care cos they're rammed advised flatmate to run for the nearest defib. Flatmate waited incase it got worse and eventually paramedics came. I'm not a doom monger as you know but we are not anywhere near the peak and it's too quick already. Drove past local village pub tonight and was ashamed (wrong word but you know what I mean) to see people through the pub window nose to nose like it is at Christmas. You could barely shoe horn anymore in. The NHS needs space and definitely time- give them it!

This is just getting started. The Herd Infection comments are pure bxxlshxt, the policy and protocol is dynamic as infections continue to rise.

We have some dark days ahead.

The blame game needs to stop, the cops were out last night shutting pubs, clubs, restaurants, cafe's etc down, earlier than the recommended ' as soon as possible and don't open tomorrow ' For now we need to pull together and help those who cannot get out to buy food etc.

Fill the car up, make sure you have enough provisions for at least a month and ' gan neewhere '

This is a shxt time for us all.

The outcome is far more damaging for the UK than anyone expected, most predicted a World recession, however we will have at least a decade of building up again.

This fuxker is going to affect us all one way or another.

Great news:

NHS to get thousands more beds, ventilators and extra healthcare staff

The NHS has struck a deal with private hospitals that will provide thousands more beds, ventilators and extra healthcare staff from next week to aid the fight against coronavirus.

The extra resources, which includes nearly 20,000 staff, will also help the NHS deliver other urgent operations and cancer treatments.

The deal with independent hospitals is thought to be the first of its kind and will include the provision of 8,000 hospital beds across England, nearly 1,200 more ventilators, more than 10,000 nurses, over 700 doctors and over 8,000 other clinical staff.

Regarding London the useless Mayor has done absolutely nothing and has been in hiding. He's normally all over the local news, social media etc singing his own praises.

I haven's seen one cleaner on the tube or London overcrowd (where it is spreading). It was been unchecked in London since it went into the community weeks ago. No hand sanitisers anywhere.

When they talked about herd immunity I thought - they are taking the hit and close to a million will die. A cull that would eliminate a fraction of the aged and people with health conditions.

But now with the measures in place they are now obviously panicking - in Italy the people needing treatment are getting younger.

Another thing I don't get - whats the obsession with the USA and Trump daily briefings? It's much more relevant to us what is happening in Italy as we are 2 weeks behind them and have been taking the same measures at the same time.

When I went to Southwark for a meeting on Monday it was quiet and eery but simple things they could have done haven't been done.

Stop handing out free metros for example - in usual times if you see one on the train you pick it up to read. A sign saying please hold the handrail on the escalator (another spreader) was still there.

Nothing wrong in taking the opportunity of getting outside and going for walks as long as social distancing is observed. What is wrong, however, is staying in another area from your own to do it and whilst there, doing your shopping/panic buying - thus depriving the locals even more. I suspect that before too long there could be trouble - when the locals start encouraging these motorhome owners to go home...

UD, I think one of the biggest risk factor on the tube and overground is people using their phones especially if they are sitting down. The angle that phones are held makes them a perfect micro-droplet collector and people then put them up to their face to make calls. Phone use should have been banned in tube carriages while this virus is circulating.

The sad news that 2 ENT specialists are on ventilators does help to confirm the theory that getting a heavy dose by breathing in droplets at close hand from an infected individual can lead to a very severe case of Covid-19 irrespective of age. It is this close contact which has led to pubs, restaurants etc being closed. My hope is that if people keep their distance, wash their hands etc then even if they do get infected it will be relatively mild.

With the closure of pubs and the like, the centre of attention has moved to places like supermarkets and shops.

A lot of people don't seem to have grasped what social isolation means. There is no need for entire families to visit supermarkets. Workers are already being exposed to hundreds, if not thousands of customers every day. Where circumstances allow, you need to go to the shops alone. Going shopping is not a replacement for the things you're not allowed to do.
