The thought of the FGB even stepping foot in Carlisle again sickens me to the core. The thought of genuine CUFC supporters paying to listen to the odious [censored] is even worse. Entertainment this is certainly not!

I want to go - but I’d feel very guilty about spending money for it. I’m sure it’ll be entertaining one way or another and have interesting stories about AJ and Carlisle United being Jenkins club and his reluctance to sell.

Would I want him back? Yes: we were all United when things were good, we were all United when things were bad, to get him out. Far more entertaining than now and there’s far too many fractions now that I don’t think will ever heal.

It’ll be interesting to find out what sort of state the club was in when Knighton took over from Jenkins.

The club was losing 5k a week and the bank had stopped honouring cheques. Directors wouldn't put money in so it was put up for sale. Harry Gregg was the middle man when MK approached the club. A number of debts were paid off for control.

I had some good times in this era.
My recollection was that; Michael Knighton and family paid themselves some very large amounts of money as directors?
I recall him criticising fans and making a threat to take us out the league?
He took 5 grand and sold Tony Caig to Blackpool?
I don’t like being bitter and I don’t like to ‘hate’ but for the love of God please don’t pay to go to this event; if was prepared to do it for free and to be completely Candid then fair enough.

This event is the only thing that might take place in Cumbria this year that warrants a bigger boycott than the leasing.com trophy.

Reasons not to go to this
The massive mortgage left as his legacy that the club couldn't afford to service.
The fictional take over by MAMCAR....which turned out to be the initials of his family members
His involvement in another scam at a school he ran in Yorkshire, which together with HMRC irregularities led to him been barred as serving as diector for x amount of years
AND the threat to shut the club down and "let weeds grow round the ground"
There must be other reasons, not sure what Paul Musgrave is thinking promoting this.

I agree seesaw and I’d feel very guilty about spending money to go, so you’ve persuaded me it’s a NO.

But I’m hoping someone from the press goes ie Colman so I can read about what he had to say online for free the next day - real kick in the teeth for him putting on N&S site for free considering he wanted to close it down with his paper - new company now though.

Well i.m definitely going

It.ll be good to renew hostilities with old Mikey. Wonder if he.ll be bringing his old hired hand Karl.

And just to point out to Mr Boring there never a was a mortgage on the east stand it was a high-interest short term loan that turned into a long term one at a stupid rate of interest because he couldn't refinance it due to the FGIT putting a warning out because the job was never contractually finished.

Maybe Mr Boring would rather the stand hadn't built and no doubt, if left to Jenkins and co people, would still be using the scratching shed today.

Some might attend this event out of interest. I would urge them not to do so, unless there are some who are prepared to ask a few awkward questions.

It's an ill advised function in my opinion. I've no idea what the organiser hopes this will achieve. Personally I'd like the auditorium to be empty.

I can’t believe anyone would want to give him the oxygen-despite the Jimmy Glass goal, most of us were still calling for his head on a platter that day.

I have no doubt however that the Club would have pushed on if MK had access to cash-sadly he didn’t.

The two memorable eras in the more recent past have come under Kinighton and Story, one ran out of investment and nearly took the club to the wall , the other chose not to invest at a time when we could have progressed. The profile of the club in both eras was unrecognisable compared to what it is now.

For [censored] sake you stupid [censored]

THERE WAS NO MORTGAGE The FIGT grant amounted to just less than a million of the original 5 million costs. And in fact, wasn't paid in full in the end because MK cancelled the contracts for the internal fit-out which came to over half a million [ The three lifts alone were over 250k ] Because he couldn't raise any more cash.

The security came in the form of a charge on the ground which they discovered was worthless unless they wanted to call in the loan and close the club down which they threatened to on numerous occasions [ and is I suspect the reason that EWM has a charge over everything and not just the ground ]

WAWLC Decided the best way to go was just to let the interest keep wracking up. JC tried several things to a] get the loan written off b] stop the interest mounting up he failed with the first one but not the second which he managed to do in return for a large I believe 200k one-off payment. Which I think came from the first trach of money the Trust handed over for their shares [ cheque on the pitch at Cardiff] and the conversion of what was in effect a very high-interest bearing bridging loan into one more apt for the time it had been in place.

From what I understand when he took over FS used his companies financial profile muscle to get the interest reduced to effectively nil in the end obviously WAWLC didn't want to piss him off as they knew they were much more likely to get their money back from a successful construction and services company than they were from a failed football club.
