Less traffic, more parking and a ‘gateway’...

If only a Ground down that end had taken off eh?!

Less traffic but more parking? Not sure that adds ups. Exchanging grid-lock for locked cars, that's really pretty.
I wonder why this particular MP suddenly might have funding for this?

That said, the station forecourt has long been in need of ridding it of the menace to pedestrians the current layout presents.
Not sure it needs £15m to transform it though. It's a simple job to do so, with suitable "calmed" access into the car park. (Outward traffic through the back as of the days of old).
In fact that could probably be done with quick rearrangement of the existing furniture in a day or two. Use the £14m+ cash left over to build a multistorey where the existing car park is to add spaces if it's really required.

Refer back to line two though.

There’s a lot clearance work currently by the old County Council offices beside the Station Taxi Rank, car parking is pencilled in for some of this location from memory?

Is this just a plan or do they actually have the money? As they've talked about sorting out court square for about 20 years

If the swimming pools do get knocked down they could have another entrance round the back for just cars or just buses, but that'd need virgin/whoevertakesoverfromvirgin/network rail to build some new walkways in the station itself

Needs a new public walking entrance/bridge from that area anyway.

Anywhere from the west of town and you have to walk all the way round to get in the front of the station.

There's some comments on the article about the existing 'southern entrance' - where's that? Is it just the car park entrance further down collier lane?

I know they don't seem keen on letting people use that ramp down from the viaduct - got bollocked for going that way when it was open one time

There’s an entrance from where the Staff park, open to the public. It has clearly highlighted walking areas and uses the underpass within the Station.

It’s not very well advertised mind...

It's quite effective that entrance and I am surprised it isn't used more.
Amyone heading to Botch from the vicinity of Currock and Denton Holme area can cut off a good 5 minutes of time.

There'll still be puke and punch ups at the taxi rank Saturday night/Sunday morning.
