Bar Naming at Brunton Park was created by BoardAdmin
Hi folks, during the last couple of CUSG Meetings, the Club have indicated that they would be open to some of the bars at Brunton Park being given names in the near future.

The idea is that they’d like to name these Bars after Club Legends, suggested by the fans.

This Thread is for yourselves to offer suggestions, that will then be voted on at the upcoming Fun Day/Fleetwood friendly (Details of where you’ll be able to do so will be confirmed once we have a shortlist).

The following Player Named Bar’s already exist, and aren’t up for a renaming:
Ross’s Bar
Balderstone’s Bar
McVitie’s Bar
McConnell’s Bar

Also, Hughie McIlmoyle has the Statue at the entrance to the Club so is already suitably honoured!

Bars that are potentially able to be renamed:
The Sunset Suite
The Sporting Inn
Pioneer Stand Bar
Sponsor’s Lounge

The Player’s Lounge is a possible, though that is for future discussion and there are already one or two possible plans for it.

So, which Legends deserve the accolade? Leave your suggestions on this Thread and we’ll collate them, ready for voting.

Cheers!

Just my own thoughts here, but looking at the names of the existing bars... it's great that we've been able to recognise some of our good servants of the more distant past, but it would be nice if we started to maybe focus more on the successful players of the last 30 or so years?

This season is the 25th annivesary of the 94/95 title winning side so maybe we could start recognising some of those names - Wadsworth, Walling and Reeves would be obvious ones I guess.

I know the club have mentioned that the Player's Lougne might be a possibility to rename but maybe it would be good to recognise Tony Hopper by naming that bar after him?

Anyway, here's some of the names I would put forward for a poll...

Walling
Wadsworth
Reeves
Murphy
Livesey
Gray
Halpin

The club promised to honour Dick Young with something more permanent than a golf day - good opportunity to do that and god knows he deserved it.

I'll give it a go:

First: Ivor Broadis. I don't think anyone can argue that one. He should have been honoured long before now, although a bar seems hardly enough in his case.

Second : Peter Murphy. Whoa, pretty random some are thinking, so I will put my case.

When Carlisle fans talk about hero's, other than Jimmy Glass, anyone younger than 40 never saw them play. I'd like some one from the modern era. So why Peter?
He was at the club for over ten years.
He scored goals that made our history.
The goal that got us up from the Conference.
The goal in the Trophy final that got us our second ever win and the first at new Wembley.
The goal at Rochdale at the end of the 05/06 season. Without trawling through my records (I'm sure some one will know), that goal, made us mathmatically safe for the title, or maybe not mathmatically but barring a 20 goal swing made us odds on. I know it was important anyway.

On top of that a nice bloke.

I like Peter Murphy, one of my all time favourite players.

Was he here for ten years? Did he technically not leave the club though in 2007 when he turned down a contract and then rejoined when he couldn't get fixed up elsewhere.

Definitely Tony Hopper.

Also good cases for Alan Ashman, Mick Wadsworth and Mally Poskett. Bob Stokoe too? The 83-84 team was after all the second best team in the club's history aside from the 73-75 era.

Peter Murphy is a good shout too, long servant and involved in key moments as above.
No-one's mentioned Jimmy Glass, is he already commemorated?
Derek Lacey is also a club legend and part of the folklore.

With some of the more modern players it's a bit ambivalent depending on how they left. Cynics would say David Reeves could have a signpost to Preston named after him, along with Paul Simpson and Karl Hawley.

Paul Simpson probably worthy of consideration though, local lad, led us to two promotions and went on to be a World Cup winner with the England Under-20s.

Pericard just oozed skill - that goal against Norwich was sublime, it was also when they had Lambert as manager and were on the up as well.

We should have done everything we could to keep him, he was an exciting player and a crowd pleaser.

For me it has to be someone who did something special for the club, really made their mark in their time here. Of the suggestions so far I would agree with Broadis, Ashman, Young, Wadsworth - all managers/coaches. Former players I would agree with Murphy (2 very important goals and years of service), Halpin (Great player before his injury, years of service to the club after he stopped playing), Glass (whatever you think of the state we were in he is famous for scoring that goal), Beardsley.

Should also name the Launderette after Caig/McKellar...
