Is Scottish football carrying on in their lockdown?

Boris is on TV tonight 8pm to announce ours no doubt. If the schools are shut then it’s highly likely sport will get cancelled again.

It’s quite clear you want the season cancelled, and maybe you will get your wish.

But I don’t see how the schools being shut relates to or has anything to do with sport being cancelled. Unless I’m missing something.

For [censored] sake

I’m guessing no one at the EFL gave a moment to think that moving the game would mean it now clashes with Cadfael on UK Gold :(

Once again it’s one rule for lower league footballers with a long journey, another for fans of medieval monk mysteries who’s sky plus boxes are already full

Yes I would probably put that in the borderline category.
It has been cold for a week, but minus 3 is doable if it warms up a bit during the afternoon.

Orient will understandably want an early decision given the distance they have to travel.

Think the club and referee will have a decision to make on Friday afternoon.

KO is 1pm - that gives it 1hr of afternoon warming up!

Updated forecast now showing -5'C at 9am Saturday

Absolutely NO chance of the game going ahead

Games have been on when it's been far far colder .. Covers are on, layer of snow for insulation. Still a good chance this goes ahead .

When was the last time we had a home match called off for a frozen pitch ?

Not sure why the club should be bending over to make a decision today to help Orient out, especially when there are no fans being impacted. If we want the game on and think it can be we should be given every opportunity to let that happen.

Its nowt to do with the club they don't put games off.

They'll probably advise on the state of the pitch and it's up to the EFL/Referee I would think.

The home Club is required to make contact with the EFL and the match referee to inform them of the situation. Depending on the location of the match referee, the EFL, in certain circumstances would then arrange for a local referee to make an inspection.

The home Club will also liaise the visiting Club to inform them of the required pitch inspection so they can plan accordingly in regards to team and supporter travel. In some extreme cases, a pitch inspection can be made the day before the fixture.

Not saying it’s the clubs decision Nobby but the club are clearly involved in the process, as above. Just don’t see why the weather tomorrow constitutes an “extreme case” that warrants a decision made today. If a few lads from Orient have to get on a bus to give us a better chance of getting a game on (presuming we want it on) then I don’t really care.

A steward once told me a story about when we were playing Huddersfield over the festive period and the game was a bit doubtful.

They had a few injuries apparently and Lee Clarke and Terry McDermott came bouncing onto Brunton Park shouting the odds at the referee who was inspecting the pitch saying 'we're not ******* playing on this'.

Greg Abbott watched on and the referee postponed although he'd looked like he was going to put the match on before those pair of scroats arrived!

I agree unless you are expecting an extreme weather event, then you have to try to get it on.
I think some of the sour grapes when matches get called off are just a bit unnecessary.
I do think communication could be improved on the chances of games being on or not, even though no fans are travelling.

The pitch is covered the covers have worked before a lower temperature, whether we have replaced the ones damaged in the floods with the same one is unknown. If the covers went on when it was above freezing with the layer of snow that will help massively . I'm sure they are periodically checking it as well.

If the covers are on already then the pitch temperature should remain above freezing overnight. Surely then they could take them off mid-morning tomorrow and even if the temperature is still below freezing then it should be fine as it gets warmer up until kick-off.

That's a shame, stops our momentum somewhat.
Did the covers not work, or were they put on too late.
We obviously never got round to completing the underground heating - presumably it is too expensive to run for clubs at our level, particularly now.
Ah well if gives the likes of Tanner a bit more time to get back to fitness.

It's a shame, the last thing we need is a fixture backlog. I don't know if postponing for a day was even thought about, not easy when the away team comes from London. On top of that, we are playing on Tuesday night, which ideally would need bumping back a day as well.
