Is it possible to have a sell on clause of a sell on clause?

Eg Carlisle sell to Stoke for £1m
Stoke sell to Villa for £5m and we get 20%
Villa sell to Everton for £20m - Stoke get 20% (£4m) then we get 20% of that £4m (£800k).

It will have to be a big fee, and some of it will need put in to strengthening the squad because weakening the defence of a team that don’t score any goals is a recipe for relegation.

Yes we want the add ons as well but the initial fee is paltry and if this is a done deal then whoever made the decision should walk.

Why would they be selling on anytime soon...if they are paying £750k he needs to be playing.....somewhere ....a loan back would be ideal for us and the player... could be years before he'll get into Everton's team

Devils advocate - if the money from Henderson, McCarron, Galloway and likely Cosgrove kick back plus this proposed £750k for Branthwaite meant the current owners moved aside we’d not be interested in trying to hold out for more.

I disagree. Let's take one example, Peter Beardsley. it was obvious that he was a good player after just a few games, but we didn't sell him immediately and he got even better. Plus we as Carlisle fans got the opportunity to enjoy his football before he eventually moved on.

All this 'sell on' stuff assumes that the player will improve and importantly will get a chance to play in the first team at his new club. If Everton are in need of a centre half would they throw on Branthwaite ? It's unlikely. There more likely to sign an experienced South American or a European for a few million quid, rather than risk playing a teenager. English prodigy centre halves in their teens are a rarity. There have been some, Stones as you mention and John Terry come to mind, but they are exception rather than the rule.

I think, on balance, £750K with sell-on, is a good deal.
Just don't see him breaking through in a prem team when he has no prem academy training. He is going to be playing for Everton u-18s.
Hate to say it, but all young kids need 50+ games experience behind them before making a big move.

Not sure of that Nobby. The prem and League two are like different sports to be honest. Think that is why some of the snowflakes from the prem and champ struggle with the physical game.
Nothing is surer than League 1 and 2 will end up the same way. We've already see it with teams trying to play out from the back

If I had a son who was a decent player I would advise him to get at least a couple of seasons at this level to get a good grounding in the rough and tumble of the game playing real football and not signing for one of the big clubs to get buried in their U23 side then most likely being ditched a few years down the line.
From the clubs point of view it would give them a chance of getting a much bigger fee and allow the club to benefit from their ability.

Yesterday was the first time I've seen Branthwaite live and have to say he didn't disappoint.

Calm on the ball, excellent positioning, quick, strong and a decent distribution.

For a boy of 17 he is a huge talent.

1 million now plus 25% sell on is a minimum.

As others have said, he could be a 10 million pound player in 3 years.

The deal will be a quick cash in , They would have offered a big Lump up front so would, That probably why its lower as we need cash quick.

If budget have been cut , We've mccarron money to come in and it's right that the loan facility hasn't got any bigger in while , then this deal would be awful as for once we aren't completely desperate for the cash .

I heard the talk on radio Cumbria on the way back from Brunton Park and as folk are saying they quoted 750K with add ons/ sell on etc, also said it was Everton & we would loan him back. They were going to mention it to Beech in the post match interview later ( i didn't hear the interview, so dont know if the question was asked)

I was told by a die hard supporter last night that Jarrad & and his mam & dad (along with his agent Reeves) met with Everton officials & that is why he didnt play at Colchester. In my ooinion if we are only getting 750K then a decent sell on is a must AND a loan back to us too.

Got told the (alledged) McCarron figures yesterday, and they are 5 times what Carlisle offered him, so the proportions are probably right, but if the Carlisle offer value was right can't see Branthwaite being on £400 a week.

To be honest ,if you bought a young player like Brantwaite you would want him playing with players that are going to bring him on.I wouldn't want him in a poor team at the bottom of league 2 all season.Will be very surprised if he is loaned back to us.

The thing is though Seabird if its true that there were a lot of interest in him and Everton wanted him, but we said if you take him its on condition that he stays here till end of the season would Everton pull out of the deal ?
