I have never seen the river Eden come up as fast as it has this morning, well not since 1967. Its absolutely horrendous in Appleby, and although they reckon its nearly peaked now, they reckon there will be another high around 6pm.

This was taken before the river was at its peak, rather sad to see an armchair floating down a main street.

Just stay indoors unless necessary.

Having said that there was still plenty of folk going to the Toby carvery!!

Alert on Warwick Road now raised to "severe" which I think is about as high as it can go..

They are expecting to flood and are just trying to move as much stuff upstairs as possible.

Ive no idea whether you are at great risk or not but might be a good idea to move personal stuff that Insurance can't replace, upstairs. Stuff like photos, videos, etc, stuff that's unique and personal.

I would get your stuff upstairs asap, I am almost certain Kingfisher Park used to be a flood plain and in the last big storm it was well flooded around that area.

I was out at Langwathby and Lazonby today, and the fields are flooded. Both bridges are impassable. Last time I saw these places flooded like this was in 2005 when Carlisle got flooded out.

I was in Appleby yesterday and it was fine, amazed to see today's photos, roads I was driving on 24 hours ago now under feet of water. Hope everyone is OK.

Aye the waters about 1/2ft from going over said bridge the one just before you get to the hotel by Kingfisher Park. Had a photo but no idea how to upload it. Police told us that it's likely to be at it's worst around 2am!

I'm in dartford feeling helpless about the situation.
2 inches has got into my house and probably going to rise, thought I had missed it but the high tide pushed the eden higher.

If it stays at 2 inches I will class myself as a very fortunate lad. I was just responding to the other thread and I could have sorted some accommodation for people but then it got into my house!

I hope everyone is ok and safe.

I'd say so pal, Melbourne Park is almost completely submerged, you can't see the arches on the bridge and the flow of the water is rapid. There's a crack on the corner of the bridge which is where the safety concern has come from. Hope everyone stays safe, very worrying indeed also good luck Lummy hope it gets no worse for you and a very kind gesture you were making.

Just been for a walk around BP, the pitch looks fine but all the water is getting pumped out of the ground into main car park, the bridge has got about 5 or 6 holes in it where water is literally pouring out, if that goes there's problems, it's about 2 foot off the banks by the back of Warwick Road/bottom of Greystone Road, got my stuff upstairs now and my friends family camped up with mine now, fingers crossed everybody stay safe.

The width of Caldewgate bridge between there and the flooded devonshire walk and WCML. A section flood wall was missing for 'works' on that side but Brewery uni Halls on other side are inches from getting the full deluge too. Lower viaduct site is highly likely to flood.

There WILL unfortunately be significant parts of the city with very soggy carpets by the end of tomorrow.

Just had a walk to the defences behind toby carvery. There is still 1/2 to 3/4 m left but given that there is supposedly worse to come i would say its fairly certain to come over. Just remains to be seen just how bad it turns out to be.
Tesco petrol station well under btw so no chance of filling up anytime soon.

Yeah flood defences are holding up by less than 1/2ft i'd say just now... Only a matter of time before they're breached... Shocking scenes really... Think this supposed high tide at 2am may be when the real damage is done... At present the bridge on Warwick Road is acting as somewhat of a dam water's backing up.

"The Environment Agency has issued further updates regarding the flood warnings for specific areas of Carlisle where the water is expected to overtop the flood defences from 1am.

Cumbria Police are urging people in the areas detailed below to self-evacuate to family and friends this evening, or attend a local reception centre at the Richard Rose Morton Academy on Wigton Road for advice and shelter, which will be open from 00:15.

The priority areas are detailed below:

The defences in the following areas are expected to overtop from 01:00 on Sunday 6th December
• Rivers Eden & Petteril at Carlisle City Centre, Botcherby and Warwick Road areas
• Rivers Caldew and Eden at Carlisle, Willowholme, Caldewgate and Shaddongate (North of Caldew Bridge, A595)
• River Eden at Carlisle Rickerby Village.

The defences in the following areas are expected to overtop from 08:00 on Sunday 6th December
• River Caldew at Carlisle, Viaduct Estate Road area
• Rivers Caldew and Eden at Carlisle, Willowholme, Caldewgate and Shaddongate (Note, South of Caldew Bridge, A595)

Some localised flooding has already taken place in certain areas of Carlisle including Denton Holme and the Racecourse. Other areas within Carlisle are being closely monitored and further updates will be given should the situation change.

Police and partner agencies are becoming increasingly concerned with people arriving in Carlisle city centre to view the river levels. Advice is to stay away from flood waters wherever possible.

We advise residents to keep up to date with local warnings and alerts, if people want to self-evacuate early, please inform your family and friends where you are going, and that you are safe, to avoid concerned relatives contacting emergency services.

Further updates will be issued to keep people up to date of the situation in Carlisle.

Flood water is dangerous. Everyone is advised to stay away from swollen rivers and if you are travelling, check the flood risk before setting off and don’t drive through floodwater."
